Where did you grow up and what was your first language?
I was born and raised in Newark, New Jersey. My first language is English.
What from your hometown do you wish you could find in New York City?
When I was younger, I loved attending the annual carnival, festival, or circus that came in town. I eagerly waited for the day I could play games to win the biggest stuffed animals, wear some funky circus light up gear, and eat zeppoles and funnel cake with my friends and family. I still look forward to all of those things even now because they bring me back to when I was a child growing up and remind me of home.
Where did you go to college?
I attended Rutgers University where I earned my B.A. in Social Work and Africana Studies. I am currently pursuing my Masters in Education at Relay Graduate School of Education.
What was your favorite book in middle school?
My favorite book in middle school was The Face on the Milk Carton by Caroline B. Cooney.
What is the best part of teaching at Hamilton Grange?
The best part of teaching at HG is having the wonderful opportunity of getting to know my students and building relationships with them during Advisory and Club. I enjoy these moments because they allow both the students and teachers to understand that we are both not only teachable, but, we are both people. When I was in middle school often times the only thing I knew about my teachers is that they were teachers and maybe if they had a pet. It was like solving a mystery to know that they had a life outside of teaching. Club and Advisory not only add a unique way for students to learn more about one another, but for staff and students to build sustainable relationships while learning.
What is your favorite thing to do when you are not teaching?
I love exploring different places like museums and restaurants with my family and close friends. I also enjoy doing hair.

ACADÉMICOS
Conferencias dirigidas por estudiantes
Dos veces durante el año escolar, invitamos a los estudiantes y sus familias a que asistan a conferencias formales dirigidas por estudiantes (SLC). A los SLC asisten el padre / tutor del estudiante, el consejero del estudiante y otros adultos que el estudiante quisiera que estuvieran presentes. El asesor facilita la reunión, pero el alumno está a cargo.
Durante la conferencia, los estudiantes explican su progreso y dominio de los objetivos de aprendizaje tanto académicos (contenido / habilidad) como de carácter (hábitos de trabajo y aprendizaje). Los estudiantes justifican su progreso guiando a sus familias a través de una carpeta de tareas que han seleccionado de sus clases. Los SLC apoyan a los estudiantes en hablar en público y les brindan agencia, lo que les permite tomar el control de su propio aprendizaje y progreso.

Un plan de estudios viable
Creamos un plan de estudios que se comparte en cada grado y departamento. Esto garantiza que se enseñen realmente a todos los estudiantes importantes habilidades de alfabetización y contenidos acordados, independientemente del maestro que se les asigne.
Un plan de estudios coherente y rico en contenido
Nuestro plan de estudios se basa en una progresión de habilidades en lectura, escritura y expresión oral, cuidadosamente diseñado para volverse más complejo desde el sexto al octavo grado. Los maestros del mismo grado planifican un plan de estudios en su materia que complementa y se basa en el plan de estudios que se enseña en otras materias a lo largo del grado.
Enfoque educativo
La escritura argumentativa es nuestro enfoque de instrucción porque cuando se combina con una pregunta polarizante, como "¿Debería Gran Bretaña devolver la Piedra de Rosetta a Egipto?" anima a los estudiantes a analizar diferentes puntos de vista, elegir un lado y apoyar su pensamiento utilizando evidencia de múltiples textos.

Electivos y clubes de día escolar
Estamos entusiasmados con el hecho de que somos una de las pocas escuelas intermedias de la ciudad que permite a los estudiantes elegir qué clases tomarán. Además de sus clases principales, los estudiantes pueden elegir entre equipo de debate, banda, palabra hablada, escritura creativa, Lego Robotics, investigación científica, teatro, psicología e Historia de Hispaniola, solo por nombrar algunos. Volver a aprender y revisar
Nuestro objetivo es asegurarnos de que todos los estudiantes se sientan competentes, experimenten el éxito y aprendan.
Por esta razón, se anima a los estudiantes a revisar los ensayos y volver a tomar los exámenes para mejorar su trabajo.
Almuerzo y aprendizaje, después de clases y sábado
Cada semana, a los estudiantes se les administra un cuestionario en áreas de contenido básico. Si obtienen menos de un 80%, vienen durante el almuerzo, después de la escuela y el sábado para volver a aprender el material y volver a tomar el cuestionario, o revisar la tarea de escritura para ilustrar el progreso que han hecho hacia el dominio de las habilidades y el contenido.

Enriquecimiento de verano
También llevamos a cabo un completo programa de enriquecimiento de verano durante el cual a cada estudiante se le presta un iPad y una biblioteca electrónica de más de 800 libros para que continúen leyendo durante los meses de julio y agosto.
