Deborah Leidermann

Where did you grow up and what was your first language?

I grew up in three different countries: Chile, Argentina, and Brasil. My first language is Spanish but for all of my middle school and high school years, Portuguese was the language of choice.

What from your hometown do you wish you could find in New York City?

I love NYC, however there are two things I wish would be more like Santiago. First, those cool nights .... no matter how hot it might get during the summer, at night you open your window and the cool breeze comes in ...... (I don't like the hot, humid NY summers). And the second thing I miss is the amazing party that is New Year's Eve. It is summer, so everybody is outside, music everywhere, is great fun!

Where did you go to college?

Universidad Catolica de Chile and City College.

What was your favorite book in middle school?

The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery. Still read it once every year.

What is the best part of teaching at Hamilton Grange?

Getting the chance to envision, plan, and implement, together with an amazing team, a great education for our students.

What is your favorite thing to do when you are not teaching?

Cooking, reading, going on long walks with my friends, and watching movies.

What is your favorite quote?

"I'd rather attempt to do something great and fail than to attempt to do nothing and succeed." and "Problems are not stop signs, they are guidelines." -  Robert H. Schuller
