Jhonnatan Arango

Where did you grow up and what was your first language?

I grew up right here in NYC since I was two. I moved around quite a bit, so I've lived in a few boroughs (Manhattan, Bronx, and Queens).

What from your hometown do you wish you could find in New York City?

The best part about NYC is that you can find almost anything, but I wish there were more Colombian restaurants and bakeries across the city.

Where did you go to college?

New York City College of Technology in Brooklyn.

What was your favorite book in middle school?

The Pearl by John Steinbeck was my favorite book in middle school.

What is the best part of teaching at Hamilton Grange?

Besides having a parking lot, I enjoy a little bit of everything — building relationships with diverse students and school staff and working collaboratively for successful outcomes. Most of all, there's something different every day, which leads to new experiences, challenges, and opportunities.

What is your favorite thing to do when you are not teaching?

I enjoy spending time with loved ones. Also, a little bit of R&R is significant to me too when I get the opportunity.

What is your favorite quote?

“Care about what other people think and you will always be their prisoner.”  - Lao Tzu
